Cara joined the Foundation on June 29th, 2017 and is both our Deputy Case Management Director and Mental Health Case Manager. Hailing from Youngstown, Ohio, she was looking for a veteran nonprofit that focuses on the unique needs of Infantry Marines transitioning into civilian life. Cara has personally seen people close to her struggle with their transition and mental health issues. By her nurturing personality, she’s drawn to help others in any way she can.
Cara has her masters in Social work. She works full time as pediatric social worker at Akron Children’s Hospital, a top-ranked children’s hospital serving approximately 800,000 patients per year. Her job is to assess for suspected child abuse and neglect in the emergency department and inpatient units, complete psychiatric assessments, conduct forensic interviews at the Child Advocacy Center, and provide case management services to patient families.
For the past two years, she’s worked with the giveanhour.org group, a nonprofit mental health counseling service that connects veterans with mental health issues to local providers at no cost to the client. They offer remote services where a local provider is not practical.
Her hobbies include Horseback riding, kayaking, advocating for foster care and spending quality time with her pups. Welcome Cara and thank you for your service to the foundation and our mission!
